Daniel Atwell D.C.

Dr. Daniel E. Atwell is the founder of Atwell Family Chiropractic: A Creating Wellness Center, proudly serving the Harrisonburg, Virginia community since 2001. Under his leadership, the practice has earned recognition as the number one chiropractic office in the Shenandoah Valley and has been named the top chiropractic practice in Virginia multiple years.

While attending Bridgewater College, Dr. Atwell earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and initially pursued a path toward physical therapy. As part of his preparation, he completed shadowing hours at a healthcare clinic led by a doctor with dual degrees in physical therapy and chiropractic. This experience proved pivotal in shaping his future. During his internship, he observed the transformative effects of chiropractic care—seeing children with colic and ear infections heal fully without medication, and patients with chronic pain regain function and quality of life naturally. These powerful experiences revealed to Dr. Atwell the unique ability of chiropractic to go beyond symptom management and instead address the root cause of health issues. That realization led to a new vision and a lifelong dedication to chiropractic.

Dr. Atwell later earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Anatomy and became a Certified Sports Medicine Specialist, further strengthening his foundation in health and performance care. His approach to chiropractic is grounded in evidence-based practices and a commitment to whole-person wellness.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Atwell has been the head coach of the varsity boys soccer team at Spotswood High School in Penn Laird, Virginia, for 14 seasons. He brings the same energy and passion to the field that he offers his patients—encouraging growth, resilience, and excellence.

Outside of work, Dr. Atwell enjoys traveling the world and spending quality time with his wife and three children. His commitment to natural healing, community leadership, and lifelong learning continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of those he serves.

My name is Shannon, and I have been the Account Manager at Atwell Family Chiropractic since 2008. I’m a dedicated wife to Dr. Atwell since 1997 and we have three beautiful children together: two sons, a daughter, and a daughter-in-law. We are expecting our first grandchild in July 2025. We also have three dogs and a cat that keep our hearts full.

I have a B.S. in Biology from Bridgewater College. I further continued my education for 1 ½ years at Logan College of Chiropractic; however, I decided to pause my education to be home with my first-born son and to be a stay-at-home mom in 1999. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family, hiking, exercising, fishing, golf, and volleyball.

Chiropractic has been a big part of our family, and I love seeing how many lives we can change through our passion and purpose in our office.

I found my love for the health care field starting in 2007 when I became a CNA and worked passionately until I had my first child in 2011. When I was pregnant with my children, I discovered the immense benefits of prenatal and chiropractic care which inspired me for the rest of my life.

Now that my children are older, I am excited to be back in the workforce and helping others find the benefits of wellness and chiropractic care. In my free time, I love cheering from the sidelines of every game and practice. I have a passion for helping others and a genuine love for chiropractic care. I love supporting wellness in every season of life—whether it’s raising active kids or encouraging others on their own health journey with chiropractic care.

I am originally from the Orlando, Florida area. I had the importance of chiropractic instilled in me at a young age from my father, a graduate of Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, class of 89’. Working with my father, I was able to see firsthand the life-changing results that come with chiropractic and wellness care, which inspired me to go into the health care field.

I graduated from high school in 2016 with concentration in health care and later moved to Virginia in 2019. I received my certification in Massage Therapy from the US Career Institute in 2022. I am passionate about helping others and guiding people to understand the benefits of chiropractic care in every aspect of their life. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my dogs, cats, reading, and spending time with family. I am originally from the Orlando, Florida area. New Patient Advocate

I am the New Patient Advocate here at Atwell Family Chiropractic. I am originally from San Diego, CA. In California, I worked at a naturopathic wellness center and loved helping patients find access to wellness care.

My passion for Chiropractic wellness care comes from my experience as a patient in my adolescent years. Through chiropractic care, I found cures from many health problems including allergies and thyroid disfunction. I love helping our patients here find the same life changing care. As the New Patient Advocate, I am given the opportunity to educate our patients on all the aspects of their lives can be bettered by their chiropractic care.

Audreona

My name is Audreona, and I’m truly honored to be part of your healing journey. After six years away, I’m excited to return to Dr. Atwell’s office as the in-house massage therapist. I originally worked alongside him for three impactful years, and it feels incredibly special to reunite and serve this community once again.

I’ve been a licensed massage therapist since 2016, and over time I’ve come to understand that my gift lies in helping the body heal through intentional rhythm and connection. I approach each session as a collaboration—tuning into your body’s needs so that together, we can create a unique experience that encourages deep release, restoration, and awareness.

My specialties include prenatal and postpartum care, lymphatic movement therapy, and targeted work for chronic pain, limited mobility, and stress-related tension. Whether you’re here for relief, recovery, or simply to reconnect with your body, I’m here to support you fully. I’m looking forward to meeting you and walking alongside you on your wellness path.

Dylan is a Shenandoah Valley native and likes to spend his free time hanging out with his wife and dog or playing pickleball. Dylan graduated from Cedar Stone School of Massage in 2022. He worked at Cedar Stone Wellness Spa, and JMU’s UREC for the past few years.
